South-East of England - July 2003
I decided to rent a car and go visiting the south-east of England with my parents who were visiting me. Below is a quick summary of this five-day trip...
1st day: Rochester - Canterbury PHOTOS
- First stop; Rochester to walk outside the the Norman Castle and to visit the cathedral.
- Then we reach Canterbury and visited its famous cathedral and wandering in the city (looking for food... something almost impossible to find after 6pm!).
2nd day: Dover - Rye PHOTOS
- What is called "Dover Castle"
is actually a big place which was used by the Romans, the Saxons, the Normans, and armies until very recently.
There are a lot of things to visit there, including the Secret Wartime Tunnels and the Keep... - Rye is a small but very nice town... Impossible to find one ugly street!
3rd day: Battle (Hastings) - Brighton PHOTOS
- The famous "Battle of Hastings" didn't take place in Hastings but a few miles north. The town of the actual location is called... Battle!
- The second part of the day was used to visit Brighton , The Royal Pavailion and the Pier .
4th day: Chichester - Portsmouth PHOTOS
- Quick stop in Chichester to visit the Cathedral before heading for...
- ...Portsmouth and the the Historic Dockyard . The entrance is expensive but the visit of the habour, the HMS Warrior, the HMS Victory and the vision of the Mary-Rose worth the money.
5th and last day: Winchester PHOTOS
- Winchester is also a very nice city. One amazing thing is all the town centre is extremely quiet!
